Tania Bruguera and Job Piston explored connections between themes of art, social media and activism with InstaCitizen. A Special Project commissioned by Job Piston, Brugera and Piston developed an artwork that released the password to Bruguera’s social media account to the general public and invited followers to log-on as @taniabruguera to share anonymously about their personal experiences with self-censorship using #instacitizen. Over 300 interactions were published by unknown users who could post content without being traced to the original user thereby creating a platform to share confessions anonymously.
